Is it worth the significant upcharge to have section dividers, and pages that tear out easily and have good quality? I would say most of the time, yes- very good to have a single, solid notebook for an entire semester/quarter, though electronic notes are also an option.

This notebook was one of the best notebooks I have ever had in my whole entire life! Throughout my Freshman year in college I was able to go to every single class I had with this notebook. I was even able to use a little bit of it throughout my Sophomore year. However this notebook did get a little bit heavy and worn out in the back and edges just like all notebooks.Here is what I really liked about this notebook:- It had dividers with pockets.- It has a ton of college ruled lined sheets- It allowed me to be more organized with college.Here is what I really did not like about this specific notebook:- It was bulky.- Got bent easily- It is heavy once you start adding paper in it.- Takes up way too much room in my backpack but since there are multiple sections divided up in this notebook, I would not really need to carry other notebooks in my backpack for different subjects. Therefore, it was not that bad.I bought this on a whim and I do not regret it. I would purchase this again in the far future when I need a notebook for many different things.

It’s a 5-subject notebook, so it’s thick. The cover isn’t durable enough for the amount of time it’ll take to fill this up. It’s much more similar to a notebook you would pick up at any discount store than a higher-quality notebook. It’ll work.

I am a college grad student at Purdue. I need these type of durable notebooks to last all semester. I prefer 5 star over other brands because of their durability however there is a caveat. They are expensive and because 5 star trapper is a known brand.

I use this notebook for a full year at college. I write all my notes from my classes in this one notebook. When the semester ends I rip out what was used so that I can reuse it next semester. This 5 in 1 notebook saves me money and room in my backpack from having 5 individual notebooks.

Tough and durable
I have used 5 star spirals for the past 20 years and have always found them to be durable and spacious enough for my over-zealous notetaking. 40 pages per section is just enough to cover a semester’s worth of notes. As a tutor, I have to review subject matter every couple of years to keep it fresh in mind, especially when a tutoring center has a majority of students focusing on lower-level math subjects. These notebooks provide a great tool for keeping those note that are most helpful throughout the years. Great tool.

I use this particularly for my study of mathematics. I typically write my notes with a fine point fountain pen. The quality of the paper isn’t best, perhaps not “thick” enough as it smudges sometimes. But the quantity, organization, and “look and feel” of the notebook is excellent.

Excellent quality and long-lasting notebook
Five Star has been a favorite since I was in high school several hundred years ago. This notebook doesn’t disappoint. It has very good quality paper with clear and consistent lines.With regular pens, even gel point, there is no bleed-through at all. However, there is some bleed with Sharpies and similar markers. It is minimal but does happen.The perforations work pretty well but I sometimes have to crease the paper along the perforation first. Just to ensure a smooth tear out without ripping elsewhere. That is, unfortunately, normal with perforated sheets.

This is a good notebook, but ultimately price is what matters.This notebook did everything I wanted it to. It lasts an entire (school) year, it is reasonably durable, has good dividers, is college-ruled in size, and has a decent amount of pages. Really it is exactly what you want in a multi-subject notebook. In that regard I have no complaints.The only caveat I would offer is that the price fluctuates wildly. If you can find it for under 10 bucks, it’s worth it, but I’ve seen this selling for $15, $20, and even more, which frankly is over-priced.Overall this is a great notebook and worth getting, but keep an eye on the price and purchase only when on sale.

Mead has changed over the years
I love notebooks and writing. In college, I would buy hoards of them for every new semester. I stacked up quite a backlog that took me nearly 20 years of writing to use all those extras. This makes me an ideal candidate to compare their old stock to their new.Their paper is now the slightest touch thinner. The pages are lined with less blue color. The lines now appear to be gray. I miss the blue!The whole notebook flexes more. My last ones had either firmer cardboard and/or thicker plastic. This thickness was coupled with the heavier paper of before and made the notebook feel less wobbly.I miss my old notebooks but will still buy this brand. The quality and consistency are still there overall.Last note, the paper Mead uses doesn’t seem friendly to my fountain pens. I know it’s not an ideal paper, I just thought I’d try. I use Lamy and Kaweko mediums, nothing fancy. It would make my pens either skip or bleed. I bought thicker paper pads to use for those fountain pen moods. Happy writing to y’all!

It’s exactly what you are looking for in a notebook. Paper to write on, easy tear off perforated pages and even side pockets on the separations between inner notebooks make this a good buy. Efficient Consolidation
Good choice to keep all of your notes in one place. No bleed through on paper. The one issue I have is the relative thinness of the backboard. It seems all notebooks are moving in that direction. An extra sturdy cardboard backing is important to me, and I am having trouble finding a choice in the marketplace.

Absolutely love this notebook! Although some classes restrict you to have a single notebook for their class I prefer this notebook indefinitely! It’s super convenient and easy to have in your bag and to take notes in. The pages are bigger than a normal notebook which is amazing and the book is super easy to have for how “big” you would think it is. There isn’t any hassle with this at all along with it coming with a small folder for each section in the notebook. Super recommend changing to this notebook for future class notes 🙂

I seen a lot of reviews on the notebook came bent from mishandling and I agree. When mine arrived today that half sheet on the front of the notebook was bent but the notebook itself wasn’t bent. I ripped that piece off and kept it pushing. Everything else was great.

Larger Notebook Spiral Bend
I had to get a replacement after the spirals got crushed in a delivery bag. Five Star makes great notebooks in general. These notebooks with pockets, extra pages for detailed note taking, and the pages tend not to bleed: the product is great, but for the spiral thickness. I’m hoping that future orders will come in boxes rather than the soft bags. The larger spirals are not sturdy enough to handle the weight that comes during bag shipping. I would easily give the notebook five stars if it was sturdy enough for bag delivery. I’m not sure how to request a delivery box. Maybe if I order five or so there will be enough for a box. My replacement came in a bag too but survived the delivery with just minor spiral bending that I could fix.

Great notebook that has lasted me a full semester without much wear. I wish there were 50 pages per subject since I do run out of paper for note heavy classes. I often find myself 10 pages short.These used to be $6 in 2015 but went up to $11 in 2016??! You can find these at Walmart for half the price on Amazon.

Great value notebook
It is a very great value notebook. It has tons of space and paper to write on where you will never run out of paper for the school year. The dividers are also very nice to keeping you organized in one book instead of having to buy multiple for each class that you take. Be careful thought when stuffing into you bag as the paper easily detaches from the notebook. The first 15 pages of my notebook are halfway torn off by the end of the first semester.

This is a perfect 5 subject notebook with dividers between the subjects. However it arrived with a little bit of water damage (ie wavy pages) as well as a bent corner on one of the sections. Overall still usable and not worth my time to return it.

Quality notebook perfect for what I use it for & for the settings I typically utilize it in which is everywhere since it lives in my car. It’s a sturdy product that has maintained it’s integrity even with how diverse those settings have been including 100 degree weather, freezing cold & dry weather, humidity, & it has even been subjected to light wetness after being caught in rain & condensation & after drying you can’t even tell that it hasn’t been safely collecting dust in a desk drawer. I have yet to try out the scanning option which allows you to easily scan any of the sheets included in the notebook in order to digitize it. All you need to do is scan the barcode located in the upper corner of each sheet with your phones barcode scanner. Definitely an awesome concept that I could see coming in handy eventually. I would recommend this notebook for sure, & if you’re able to purchase it for the price that I paid for it than it’s a no brainer as I got it at a steal assuming the particular color I ordered wasn’t in demand, although it’s the same exact product as the much more expensive black option. So I would also recommend checking out the prices on each color as you could potentially save a substantial amount of money.

I’ve been using these Mead Five Star notebooks since I was a teen in the 90’s. I had a different color for each class. I’m old school and still like to hand write some notes, in addition to typing them on my laptop. The thing I’ve noticed now though, is the paper itself is definitely thinner than it used to be. The cover, back, and rings of the notebook itself feel slightly flimsier too. Seems to be the thing with a lot of things nowadays. Still a nice notebook regardless for work or school.

Mine is green, it has nice, sturdy pages, and it has small pockets of folders in between the dividers.

Doesn’t bleed, good quality paper. Allows me to store some papers for classes rather than lug around folders. I use some sections for journaling and others for notes in class. As a spiral rather than composition notebook person, this is my ideal.

Five star, 5 subject – Great
I saved $1 and the time finding it out of stock in the stores. It was worth the money because it has 4 folder pockets built in it, separating each subject, with a nice plastic top cover. Convenient to store papers in the notebook without extra folders.

Great journal for random ideas in multiple subjects
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is I think it’s a bit on the pricey side. However, the paper seems to be of decent quality and the pages are easy to tear out when needed. I also like the folders between the different subjects. I don’t use the app at all, because I like the old school journal feel. I use it for meal and exercise planning as well as a journal and a sketch book.

This notebook is great and i have bought it a couple times before. It is super nice to have five different sections but all together in one notebook so i have all my subjects together at all times. The separators also have a spot for loose papers which is nice for my classes. Just like folders. Definitely will buy again and keep buying while i am in college.

Preferred over computer
I know bringing in computers or your fancy ipads are now the rage for college students. . . but I’m to poor to buy that. . . And this is honestly my preferred way because I just remember it a lot better. Plus the pockets are just something that you can’t beat. These are sturdy And has tons of paper for all your subjects personally I only use them 4 subjects because I have to take a LOT of notes and I write very large. They are pricey but honestly are worth it!

This notebook doesn’t mess around
I’m finishing up my college degree. I’ve studied mathematics teaching for the past 4 years. The amount of math homework I’ve done and lesson notes I’ve taken is extreme. I’m talking dozens of hours a week writing things by hand. As such, I’ve used just about every single notebook under the sun. I can say from experience this is one of the best I’ve ever used. The binding is wide and doesn’t catch on the paper/come unwound. The pages have pretty good bleed resistance. The perforation is strong enough to avoid coming off here and there but easy enough to use. It’s easily a 5-star notebook.Now, I’m a pretty cheap guy, so I’ve never sprang for the primo stuff, but for the price this is a really solid spiral. It’s 5 subject, but you’re only getting 40 pages per subject which isn’t much. The folders are a nice quality, but they are a bit thin. If you’re intending to use this for multiple classes/subjects, you should probably get a different notebook for each. I would also say to be prepared that this notebook is wider than any other I’ve ever seen; only just fits in my bag. If you’re taking a really really really hard class that requires a ton of by-hand homework, this is the way to go. For the math class I’m taking right now I’m turning in two 15-20 page homeworks per week and this thing can handle it. Would recommend to anyone who needs a high quality notebook to keep up with tough classes.

Nice notebook, arrived in 2 days through prime as promised. Took one star off because i received an ugly green… really ugly :-(. You can’t pick what color you get and if you’re unlucky then you get stuck with green apparently.
